• The paper Query Processing Issues in Region-Based Image Databases, coauthored by I. Bartolini and M. Patella, has been published on Knowledge and Information Systems journal (SpringerLink Online First version)
• The slides of the presentation of the paper Principles of Information Filtering in Metric Spaces I gave at the 2nd International Workshop on Similarity Search and Applications (SISAP 2009), Prague, Czech Republic, 2009. Selected as one of the four best papers and invited to a special issue of the Information Systems journal

• Together with Marco Patella, I'll co-chair the 3rd edition of SISAP - International Workshop on Similarity Search and Applications - which will be held in Istanbul, Turkey, in 2010. Stay tuned for further notices about the event!

Research

• My current research mainly addresses problems concerning similarity and preference queries in a variety of novel application domains (such as multimedia, XML repositories, electronic catalogs, P2P systems and streaming data). I'm also interested in techniques for efficiently and effectively retrieving and browsing images in large databases, approximate queries and mining algorithms for time series.
• In past years, together with Marco Patella and Pavel Zezula, I designed the M-tree, an access method able to index generic metric spaces.
• I coordinate the activity of the MultiMedia DataBase Group at DEIS.
